Become a Home Share Provider

Home share is a residential option which helps eligible adults to live, with support, in community. Home sharing will look different for different individuals. Some live with a family, couple, or individual and share the same common spaces, while others live in a separate suite within the home.

Home Share is much more than a job and offering a bed. It is about creating a long-term relationship and commitment to creating a home together. Home Share Providers will assist with relationship building, daily living skills, providing nutritious meals, personal care, transportation to appointments and recreational activities, and supervision (based on the needs of the individual).

As a Home Share Provider, you will be responsible for following guidelines and requirements such as CLBC’s Standards for Home Share, contract terms and conditions, and BeConnected policy and procedure.

 

Eligibility Requirements

To become a Home Share Provider, BeConnected requires:

  • Applicant to be 19 years of age or older
  • Current First Aid Certificate with CPR Level C
  • Clear criminal record check through the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General (to be submitted by BeConnected however Home Share Providers will be responsible for the cost)
  • Clear criminal record check for all other adults living in the home, completed through local police departments.
  • WorkSafe Coverage (Personal Optional Protection) upon accepting a contract
  • Completed Application Forms and Resume
  • Medical Assessment by a Physician (to be completed on BeConnected’s form)
  • Name and contact information for three references (at least two must be employment related)
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and current Driving Record (Driver’s Abstract)*
  • Valid home and vehicle insurance
  • Completion of CLBC’s Privacy and Information Management Course
  • Completion of required training modules (BeConnected to provide access)

 

Application and Screening Process

Please complete our Home Share Provider Pre-Screen to initiate the application process

If we are interested in moving forward, a Home Share Coordinator will contact you to answer any questions you may have, ask for your resume/references, and send you our application package.

Once we receive your completed application package we will arrange a personal interview and ask that you complete other required documentation such as a criminal record check.

The final step in our screening process is our detailed Home Study which consists of 3-4 in person visits, interviews with the applicant and other individuals residing in the home, completion of a health and safety checklist, and observations of household routines/condition of the home.

 

Matching Process

Once you are a pre-approved Home Share Provider with BeConnected it can take some time to find an appropriate match. Individuals interested in Home Share will be matched based on their likes, dislikes, wishes, and needs. The individual and prospective Home Share Provider will meet and if both parties are interested in moving forward we will set up a transition plan.
