Eligibility for Adults

 

Adults are referred to BeConnected by Community Living British Columbia (CLBC) and need to meet CLBC’s eligibility requirements.

 

CLBC’s Eligibility Requirements

Developmental Disability

An adult has:

  • significantly impaired intellectual functioning
  • significantly impaired adaptive functioning
  • these limitations must have started before age 18

Personalized Supports Initiative (PSI)

An adult who does not have a developmental disability but has:

  • significant limitation in adaptive functioning and either
  • a diagnosis of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) or,
  • a diagnosis of a Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD is officially referred to Pervasive Developmental Disorder)

For adults, the first step is for you or your family member to contact a CLBC facilitator who can tell you about:

  • the required documents
  • the approved professionals who may complete the needed documents, assessments and make diagnoses

Once you have been approved for a certain level and type of CLBC-funded services, CLBC will ask you to consider three possible service providers. This is called Individual Preference and is a way for you to have a say about which person or agency provides you with services.  You can let your facilitator know that BeConnected is a service provider you would like to consider. CLBC policy requires them to refer two additional service providers for you to also consider.
